The festive season is upon us and that usually means taking a holiday hiatus from our fitness routine, dabbling in diet debauchery, and let’s face it, cranking our eggnog intake from neutral into 5th gear. December is full of temptations and social invitations that can easily make the most avid exerciser tumble off the wagon. So, we’ve come up with a fun approach to staying on the fitness wagon while still getting to socialise. Festive fitness is where it’s at this year.
Here’s our top four festive fitness events, meaning you can still Witness the Fitness this Christmas.
Have you booked your visit to Santa yet? Well here’s a simple life hack that means you can skip shopping centre car parks but still meet 2,000 Santas all at once. How we hear you say. By taking part in the Santa Dash 5K or 10K run. And best of all, you get to be Santa too. Yup, you read right. All participants get a free Santa Claus outfit as part of their entry. Walkers, runners and children are welcome to join in the festive fun. The real Santa will also be chilling in his igloo down on the beach for anyone who wants to visit on the day and negotiate their wish list. Santa Dash™ is proudly supporting the purchase of medical equipment to help support a teenage girl with a neural tube defect – encephalocele.
The Santa Dash takes place in Clontarf, Dublin on 3 December.
Registration is €25 for adults / €20 for children. For more information visit santadash.ie

So grab your mates and get involved in some festive exertion and ridiculous fun.
The Beast runs from 15-17 December @ The National Basketball Arena in Tallaght, Dublin
Priced at €16.59. Tickets available here
We had to include the GOAL Mile in our top four as it’s a Christmas institution. An initiative which started over 36 years ago, it’s an absolutely brilliant way of bringing communities and families together over the festive period for a great cause. The GOAL Mile has grown to become Ireland’s biggest fundraising event, helping to raise millions of Euro for various humanitarian programmes across the developing world. Start a new family tradition this year and run (or walk) the GOAL Mile. If you have it in you lash on a few extra miles to really earn your Christmas pudding(s). Sure look, if anything the happy family pics you inevitably capture will give you some extra content for your Christmas Day social media portfolio. You’ll need the evidence later to reminisce on happier times as you watch your family engage in arguments over Trivial Pursuit and play sofa roulette.

It’s free to participate but GOAL ask all runners to make a donation
The 12 Days of Christmas Winter Warmer
Our last event is one you host yourself with friends, family or colleagues. December can be pretty mental but it’s easy for you to get your Christmas fitness in and we’ve done the leg work for you (pun intended). We’ve put together a 12 days of Christmas workout plan, so grab some pals and get it done before the drinking commences. We recommend banging out the Christmas tunes while doing it, oh and it’s mandatory to wear reindeer ears while participating. Try and get through the 12 exercises every day for 12 days over Xmas. This workout is short and sharp, make sure to warm up first and for further instructions on how to do execute exercise visit auraleisure.ie
